Name:Morgana (au)
Birthdate:Mar 12
"Thorn. I'm calling my sword Thorn. Because I'm sticking her in that witch's side."

(Full details: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7020185/1/One_Choice ) - does have spoilers for those not up to date (as does this journal!).

Canon up to the end of season 1 - Morgana has spent years as Uther's ward, occasionally angry at her stubborn king, but generally toeing the line and keeping her fierce anger in check; her ability to deal with the king's ways has recently met its end, however, with the discovery of her magic - knowing that her very existence is reason enough to kill her, within Uther's court, she begins to panic, seeking a way to survive.

The exact splitting point between timelines (or at least the point where it began to have any noticeable impact) was when a serving girl got the flue. The guard, who would normally have stopped to flirt with her, was instead chased away by an angry cook. As a result, he completed his rounds a little early, coming to the point where he would have seen Morgana. Merlin, who was already putting himself into a panic over whether he'd made the right choice by sending her to the druids (and hiding his identity) saw the guard before Morgana did. Forgetting for the moment that she had every right to be in the castle courtyard, he raced down and tackled her before the guard could intercept her, actually bringing a bit of the building down to cause a distraction.

The guard saw nothing but a distraction (for those who haven't noticed, any knight who's actually worth two pence seem to be off looking for magic somewhere, instead of guarding the halls). Morgana, however, saw magic.

From there, she browbeat Merlin into training her, thereby circumventing a mass of trouble (including the fact that Uther has yet to make a move against the druids, and Mordred is still living quite happily amidst them.)

Headcanon details beyond this:

Morgana: Morgana's early life is mostly a blur; she knows she was happy; but she cannot remember it.

That happiness continued to an extent when she reached Camelot, of course; but with changes, as she grew older. As a member of the king's household, she was a prize - a person many suitors would want; but as a mere ward, she lacked the protection a full parent might give her.

There was never overt troubles, of course; nothing anyone would notice - and nothing Morgana's pride would allow her to report. A man would dance just a little too close to her at the ball, move his hands just a little too roughly, or dip just a tiny bit beneath what was proper. Nothing bit; and nothing she couldn't handle.

With some help from her serving maid, Guinevere, she concocted trick dresses of a sort; they would be ruffled enough at the edges to look full, and weighted down, but only where visible; in reality, the cloth would be relatively thin, allowing for better movements of her legs. Quiet and clumsy kicks became common, discouraging most brusque efforts, and building up a reputation for clumsiness during her early years; she found that especially useful during the dances, where she would occasionally trod on someone's foot.

As she aged, of course, the tricks became less necessary; dignity became a mask and a protection instead, hiding the sometimes righteous temper she could display when crossed.

She was never truly part of the household; raised almost as a sister to the prince, yet in the end just a guest - there was no easily defined slot; that was fine. She would find a spot to belong - she had little other choice.

When Uther did something that enraged her, she swallowed her anger, knowing she had no protection; when someone did something to offend her, she made a point to take care of it; though occasionally her temper did get the better of her, her frustration with her uncertain life driving her towards acts of desperation in anger - she tried to maintain a spot of peace and belonging, even in the uncertain world of the castle.

Until she found out she had magic. The one thing Uther's house had no room for; she panicked, of course. Everyone kept trying to assure her it wasn't magic, that nothing was wrong, but she could already see the life she had managed to scrape together falling apart. She could feel the fear of having her life itself taken away from her, Uther's cold dispassionate eyes staring at the 'guest' who had thrown hospitality in his face with her witchcraft. When Merlin offered her a teacher, she leapt at the chance, a way out.

When Merlin panicked, trying to "save her" from a guard she could have just talked past - and revealed himself as a Warlock in the process - she felt a surprising anger, warring with her happiness; a person who could understand her, who she could trust, and yet he hadn't trusted her. Again, her role in life too uncertain for anyone to be at ease.

But, despite all else, Merlin bargained with the dragon for her; he found the location of a spellbook, and has begun teaching her; it's nice, somewhat, knowing that - at least in one way - there's someone who's position in life is the same as hers.

Not that she'll admit that to him, of course.

Most recently - annoyingly - she has discovered an ability that does not seem to be within Merlin's ability to teach; there are places, she has found, where life energies of two different sorts; she is drawn to them, often wandering to them without realizing it, and invariably finding herself on some new world, with nothing recognizable - or worse, with everyone recognizing her for things she hasn't even done.

She's hoping to find something in the spellbooks about it soon; this "universal" travel thing is getting rather annoying, to be honest.

Currently, she's just finished her universe's version of Lancelot and Guinevere (Where she was much more heavily involved than the original, for a variety of reasons all leading back to Merlin's choice.) She has not yet met Morgause, and does not yet know of her parentage - though that will change, undoubtedly; if not through the series, than as the actual fanfic continues. (I just don't want to advance her too far, and make spoilers (and I'd prefer my moments with non-AU merlin muses to be more confusing than awkward. :D )

POWERS:

Morgana is a witch - although new to the craft, she is strong. Where a Warlock draws magic primarily from themselves, allowing them to focus it into spells with ease - and a sorcerer learns how to draw powers into a spell, with time and practice - a witch's power is focused outside the self. Specializing in the four elements, they can further their horizons by drawing power through plants and animals, creating complex potions and spells, as well as artifacts of power.

Morgana occasionally dreams of the future, although she's largely suppressed with the help of sleeping droughts Merlin has made for her.

For the purpose of RP, she's recently found that she has a bit of a habit for stumbling between universes - finding places where "two types of life energies meet." If you're a more canonical member of the series, expect her to be as confused by you as you are by her. :P

Sometimes, due to the nature of her powers, she can feel something from a magical item or even a living creature - what it does, whether it's healthy. It's only become activated since she started moving through universes, and noticing the subtle differences between how one person feels, and a duplicate feels; it remains, however, heavily inconsistent, and she is reluctant to rely upon it.

Muse and Mun are both over 18 )

I do not own anything of the Merlin series - but I am the writer of the One Choice fanfic. So, as such, I'll say now that this journal will not be used to spoil, and this muse will undoubtedly take a path separate from the main character based on how RP with her goes.

List of weapons:

Her sword - Morgana has taken to walking with a sword about her presence, when possible; as in, whenever she can decently explain its existence. Walking between universes makes her nervous.

Since learning about the more evil variant of her that exists in some (most) universes, she has decided to name the sword Thorn. "Because I'm sticking her in that witch's side."

A knife - a small one, at her belt; pretty, but functional.

That Look - a single look, it somehow manages to impinge upon your bloodline, IQ, and even your choice of lovers all in one glorious movement of the eyeball. By most accounts, it is Morgana's most devastating weapon - now in varying flavors. Will you be the first to survive them all?

Her magic (of course.) It's not very good yet, though.
